NASA Science Learning

The Science Mission Directorate has an essential role in NASA's education mission "to inspire the next generation of explorers." The discoveries and new knowledge from our missions and research programs consistently engage people's imaginations, inform teachers, and excite students about science and exploration. We are committed to utilizing our resources to foster the broad involvement of the Earth and space science communities in education and public outreach (EPO) with the goal of enhancing the nation's formal education system and contributing to the broad public understanding of science, mathematics and technology.

NASA's Science Education Program creates products using NASA's results in Earth-Sun system science, solar system research, universe exploration, and the development of new technologies to support learning. The program sponsors educational activities at all levels of formal and informal education to provide opportunities for learners to investigate their world and their universe using unique NASA resources.

Earth-Sun System Science
The Earth Explorers Series is a monthly series that will introduce you to NASA Earth Explorers, young and old, with a variety of backgrounds and interests.

Earth Science Education Catalog provides information about Agency-wide Earth-Sun science education programs and resources for elementary through university levels.

Earth Science Education Update is a free monthly email newsletter.

Education Product Review is a biannual review of NASA's Earth science education materials. Included is an overview of the review process, guidelines for product development, criteria used for evaluation, and a list of "outstanding" products recommended for distribution by NASA's ESE.

The GLOBE Program is a worldwide network of students, teachers, and scientists taking scientifically valid measurements in the fields of atmosphere, hydrology, soils, and land cover/phenology

The Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum stewards Sun-Earth Connection science resources. Their website features an extensive Resource Directory, containing hundreds of "ready-to-go" classroom activities and products that have been extensively field tested and evaluated. The site also provides links collections of images, movies and artwork.

Solar System and Universe Science
The Space Science Education Resource Directory is an Internet on-ramp to top-quality educational resources produced by NASA's Space Science Education and public Outreach programs.

The Lunar Planetary Institute (LPI) has a collection of K-12 classroom activities and lesson plans.

The SouthEast Regional Clearinghouse (SERCH) has a collection of classroom activities, images, general info, and NASA missions sorted by planetary body.

Voyages in Education and Public Outreach is a free monthly newsletter.

Education Research Collaborative Projects - The SCORE Broker-Facilitator program offers grants for projects designed, developed, and implemented through new partnerships between space science researchers and educators in the south central region of the US.

Educator Researcher Workshops: SCORE offers grants for educator workshops presented by space science researcher and educator partners in the south central region of the US.

The Solar System Ambassadors are volunteers recruited and trained by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory who bring missions and discoveries into communities across the USA. In 1998-99 84 Ambassadors in 38 states reached over 250,000 people at various events.

A Watering Hole for informal educators including resources for planetarium and museum professionals, a project exchange with information on projects which are "in the works" and seeking partners, and information on "best practices" in informal learning. science.
