Medicaid and the Prenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP)
Medicaid is the major federal/state program that provides health insurance for individuals and their families, particularly children, pregnant women (who can also apply for Medicaid through a PCAP provider), the elderly and the disabled. Eligible individuals receive a Medicaid benefit card. Most Medicaid-eligible persons will also be enrolled into a health plan. Persons already receiving Medicaid can call New York Medicaid CHOICE at 1-800-505-5678 about Medicaid Managed Care. Persons interested in applying for Medicaid or for coverage through PCAP can call HealthStat at 1-888-692-6116 for the location of the nearest community HealthStat office.

The charts below show the amount of monthly income (before taxes) at which you can get health insurance, effective January 2004. Income levels change annually. Also, depending upon age and health conditions, individuals within the same family may qualify for different programs.
